More Featured College Radio Stations on iTunes

Back in March I wrote about the 10 featured stations in the "college radio" section of iTunes. Well, the list of "official" iTunes college radio stations has grown and now numbers 50 (by my count), plus an additional stream for a college music festival. The new list is pretty diverse geographically and sonically, and includes a religious college radio station that plays traditional sacred music and scripture, a smooth jazz-smooth grooves station from the first African-American FM radio station in Nashville, as well as a few stations from outside the U.S.

One of the recent additions is California State University-San Bernardino station "Coyote Radio." According to an article in the San Bernardino County Sun, "Coyote Radio" is similar to a commercial station, playing popular music in addition to indie artists. The article states:

"About a month ago, [station manager Lacey] Kendall learned iTunes was accepting applications for the college radio genre. She went to Jacob Poore, the station's operations assistant, and asked him to make it his highest priority. Stations must prove their Web sites can handle thousands of listeners at any given moment, so after contacting iTunes, he spent a week putting together a long list of information about Coyote Radio. The station must also show its programming is professional, entertaining and diverse from others. After waiting a short time, the station got on."

See below for the current list of featured college radio stations on iTunes. Of course, you can listen to many other stations using iTunes. This just happens to be the selection of streams highlighted by the folks at Apple.
